Emerging Contaminants
What WE Do
TGS possesses expertise in collecting samples and interpreting PFAS results within groundwater, raw leachate, and treatment processes across various states. Relationships with regulatory agencies, vendors, clients, and researchers allow our staff to be at the forefront of PFAS and other emerging issues.
One of the concerning aspects of PFAS is their persistence in the environment and their ability to accumulate in the human body over time. Some studies have raised health concerns related to PFAS exposure, as these substances have been associated with various adverse health effects, including developmental issues, immune system dysfunction, and an increased risk of certain cancers. Due to these concerns, there has been increased scrutiny and regulatory attention on the use and disposal of PFAS.

PFAS Assessment
Municipal Solid Waste Landfill, Pennsylvania
As awareness about PFAS information emerged, a landfill client handling solid waste aimed to assess groundwater and effluent conditions. TGS actively participated in the evolving investigation of tracking PFAS throughout their industrial wastewater treatment process. This involvement aimed to identify areas of PFAS concentration or introduction and helped in advising upgrades to the system.
Additionally, TGS persistently assessed conditions in both influent and effluent as part of ongoing wastewater treatment process evaluations. TGS initiated a sampling program adhering to stringent criteria essential for obtaining dependable data and ensuring quality assurance. With the introduction of regulations, TGS successfully maintained its sampling and analysis programs in accordance with state protocols.
